Air-gapped clusters
A cluster you run with the Helm chart or on bare-metal can run air-gapped, without any connection to the Polars control plane. Queries, contexts and the distributed engine work exactly as they do on a connected cluster.
Air-gapped clusters require the Enterprise plan (see Plans and billing). Install and license covers requesting the license and installing with the Helm chart or on bare-metal.
Differences to a connected cluster
| Connected cluster | Air-gapped cluster | |
|---|---|---|
| Connection to the Polars control plane | license check, query history and profiling synced to the portal | |
| License | A service account from the portal | An offline license file referenced by the configuration, or an offline license server in your cluster. The cluster verifies the license periodically and shuts down once it expires. See Install and license |
| Query profiling and history | In the portal and in the cluster's observatory | Only in the cluster's observatory, in a database you place on persistent storage. See Query history |
| The portal, workspaces and service accounts | to connect, monitor and share the cluster |
